Package a comp into your private Vault library — what gets collected, and the limits.

Your private library

In the v1 beta you can save your own assets to a private, per-user Vault library — visible only to you. Select a comp in After Effects, package it, and Altar uploads a self-contained bundle to your library so you can grab it again in any project.

Footage travels with the comp
Self-contained bundles

External footage is not just referenced — it is collected. Altar walks the comp, copies every external source into the bundle, and relinks it, so your saved asset works anywhere without missing media.

What gets collected

When you package a comp, Altar exports the selected comp to a standalone project plus a poster, then collects its dependencies:

  • External footage (images, video, audio) is copied into the bundle and relinked
  • The result is a self-contained asset that travels with no missing media

What gets rejected

A few things cannot be packaged, and Altar refuses them before upload:

  • Nested projects — a comp that pulls in another project file
  • Missing footage — sources that no longer exist on disk
  • Unsupported source types — only image, video, and audio footage is collected

The limits

Storage is capped so a private library stays sane:

  • 250 MB per asset
  • 2 GB total per user

These caps are enforced on the server when you upload, and Altar also estimates the size up front so it can fail fast before a long upload. If a package would push you over your 2 GB quota, the upload is rejected.
