Settings.
A tour of the Altar Settings window - General, Appearance, Groups, Buttons and Widgets - and where to change each thing.
Settings is a separate floating window, so you can keep it open beside the panel. Open it three ways:
- Right-click the Canvas and choose Settings.
- In Edit mode, click the gear on a Tool to jump straight to that Tool.
- Right-click a Tool and choose its Settings entry.
The list on the left has a search field, then General, Groups, Buttons and Widgets. Changes in Settings apply live to the Canvas.
General pages
| Page | What it holds | | --- | --- | | General | Show tooltips, tooltip delay, debug mode, Automatically add new tools, the screenshot folder, update checks, a diagnostics copy button, feedback and the community link. | | Appearance | Grid unit size and gap, Compact mode (under Widgets), and Theme. See Customize your workspace. | | Account | Your sign-in. | | What’s New | The notes for the version you are on. |
Show tooltips turns off the hover cards and the Widget info icon. Tooltip delay is in milliseconds. If something is not working, Troubleshooting copies a diagnostics report you can send to support.
Groups
Every Group on your Layout, with a plus to make a new one. Open a Group to:
- see its Tools in order, and drag the grip to reorder them. This order is the layout.
- Add Button to create one inside it. See Add your own Tools.
- set its icon and background color.
- Add to layout or Remove from layout.
- Delete group, for Groups you made yourself. Altar’s own Groups can only be removed from the Canvas.
Buttons
Built-in Buttons are listed under Altar, and the ones you made under Your tools. A built-in Button’s page has:
- On your layout - put the Tool on the Canvas, or into any Group.
- Appearance - icon, name, colors, what the cell shows.
- Options - values the Tool remembers, where it has any.
- Modifiers - what each modifier key does.
- Reset to defaults and Remove from layout.
A Button you made has On your layout, a row to edit what it does, Modifiers, Remove from layout and Delete. It has no Appearance, Options or Reset sections, because you set those when you create it. These only show once the Button is on your layout.
A built-in Tool that is not on the Canvas shows only its name, description and On your layout until you add it.
Widgets
The built-in Widgets. Each page has On your layout, Appearance, Options and Reset to defaults, but no Modifiers section. Some Widgets can also show as an overlay cell, offered as a Launcher next to Canvas under On your layout.
